Step 1: Pre-Export Preparation
Technical Condition Confirmation and Handling:

Cleaning and Rust Prevention: Thoroughly clean the used Kent, removing all cutting fluid and metal shavings. Apply rust-preventive oil or rust-preventive paper to all machined surfaces (such as guideways, worktables, and lead screws) to prevent corrosion caused by humid air during sea transport.

Drain Coolant and Lubricating Oil: Drain the liquid from the spindle box, hydraulic tank, and coolant tank to prevent leakage during transportation.

Secure Moving Parts: Secure all moving parts, such as the worktable and spindle head, with wooden blocks or special clamps to prevent them from shaking or colliding during transportation.

Professional Packaging/Crate Packing:

Wooden Crate Packaging is Mandatory: Sturdy, fumigated wooden crates or plywood crates conforming to international trade standards must be used.

Internal Securing: The bottom of the machine tool must be bolted or secured to the skids or sleepers at the bottom of the crate to ensure the equipment does not move within the crate.

Waterproof and Moisture-proof: Moisture-proof bags should be placed inside the crate, and the outside of the crate should be clearly marked with signs indicating rainproof, moisture-proof, do not invert, and lifting points.

Center of Gravity Marking: The center of gravity of the equipment should be clearly marked on the outside of the wooden crate for safe loading and unloading.

Document Preparation:

Commercial Invoice: A detailed description of the goods (brand, model, serial number, weight, dimensions), quantity, terms of sale, and declared value.

Packing List: A list of the specific items in each package, gross weight, net weight, and dimensions.

Bill of Lading: Issued by the shipping company, it serves as a document of title.

Equipment Photos: Photos of the equipment before, during, and after packaging, for inspection and as evidence in case of disputes.

Certificate of Origin (if required): Required in some countries.

Step Two: Choosing an International Logistics Solution
There are two main methods, choose according to the value of the equipment and your needs:

Full Container Load (FCL) Shipping:

Applicable Situations: Equipment is very large, or you have other goods that need to be shipped together.

**Method 1:** Renting an entire 20-foot or 40-foot container. This is the safest and most direct method; the equipment won't be moved around during transit.

**Process:** The freight forwarder arranges for the container to be delivered to your warehouse door, loaded, and then transported directly to the port.

**Less than Container Load (LCL) Shipping:**

Suitable for: Individual grinding machines that are too small to fill a single container.

Method: Your goods are consolidated into the same container with goods from other customers.

Advantages: Lower freight costs.

Disadvantages: Potentially longer transit time; requires unpacking and repacking at transit ports, increasing handling and potential risks.

**Step 3:** Core Process – Customs Declaration, Sea Freight, and Clearance

This is the most specialized step, and it is strongly recommended to find a reliable international freight forwarding company to handle it.

**China Export Customs Declaration:**

You will need to provide the freight forwarder with prepared documents (invoice, packing list, etc.).

The freight forwarding company will handle the export customs declaration procedures in China for you. Used equipment is subject to statutory inspection and usually requires customs declaration and exit inspection and quarantine.

Ocean Freight:

The freight forwarder will arrange shipping schedules and routes based on your time requirements and budget.

You will need to purchase international cargo transportation insurance. This is a crucial step to protect against losses due to accidents during transportation (such as shipwrecks, container falling overboard, collisions, etc.).

Destination Country Import Customs Clearance (Key Challenge):

Finding a Destination Agent: Your freight forwarder can usually work with an agent at the destination port, or you may need to find one yourself. They are responsible for handling customs clearance at the destination port.

Document Submission: Provide the complete set of documents to the agent at the destination port.

Paying Customs Duties and Value Added Tax: According to the customs policies of the destination country, import duties and value added tax are levied on the declared value of used machine tools. The determination of the declared value is very important; it is recommended to prepare payment vouchers or commercial invoices as proof.

Compliance with Local Standards: Some countries (such as the EU and the US) have safety and environmental standards (such as CE certification and UL standards) for imported machinery and equipment. Used equipment may require relevant declarations of conformity or modifications; this must be confirmed before shipment, otherwise the goods may be detained or refused entry.
